口试如何做好英语口试中的“自我介绍”

近年来笔者有幸参加了大学英语四、六级考试口语考试(CETSpokenEnglishTest,简

称CET-SET)的主考工作,对于考生在测试中出现的问题有所了解和感触。

大学英语四、六级考试口语考试是由英语四、六级考试委员会组织的、用于测量我国大学生运用英语进行口头交际的能力的全国性考试。凡获得全国大学英语四、六级证书且成绩达到一定分数线的在校大学生(包括研究生)均可报名参加考试。考试采取面对面的形式,一般由2-4名主考和3-4名学生组成。考试分为问答、发言和讨论,问答等3部分。其中第一部分是“热身”题,包括考生自我介绍和回答问题两部分。整个考试全程录象。

一.考生在“自我介绍”环节常见的问题

首先是跑题。顾名思义,自我介绍即介绍自我,其目的主要是确认考生信息准确无误、帮助考生进入状态及为第三部分的提问做准备。然而,在测试中相当一部分同学都将自我介绍变成了“家乡介绍”、“专业介绍”等。

其次是千篇一律。计算机和网络技术的发展和普及是一把双刃剑。它们在为人们提供方便的同时也扼杀了人们的创造能力。在笔者测试过的考生中,网络下载的自我介绍屡见不鲜,如超过90%的考生都使用了以下句型:

第三是变自我介绍为演讲。由于考试的形式是公开的,考生的自我介绍都准备得相当充分。一分钟的简单自我介绍(abriefintroduction)变成了一篇长达3-5分钟的演讲,以至于主考老师不得不中途打断。个别考生甚至把自我介绍变成了背诵,没有语音语调的变化,没有与主考的交流,面无表情干巴巴地生是将一片稿子给背了下来。

二.对策

以上问题的出现除了考生在考场上过于紧张之外,不自信是主要的原因。事实上,自我介绍所用的词汇量较小,语法结构也简单,考生所需的是要能灵活运用所学的基本词汇和语法结构。针对以上问题,考生在准备自我介绍时应注意以下几点:

1.紧紧围绕自己的实际情况做合理的介绍。自我介绍是“热身”题,可以帮助考生缓解紧张的情绪,也使主考对于考生的口语水平有了初步的了解。自我介绍,顾名思义就是对个人情况的介绍,一般包括年龄、爱好、家庭成员、生活习惯等(姓名是主考专门问的第一个问题),专业和家乡也可以涉及,但注意不要喧宾夺主。当然,以上所列的的有关情况不一定要面面俱到,挑自己擅长的,又容易表达的常见的项目来说。例如,谈专业问题时,尤其是表达医学专业的专门词汇,一般的英语教师不一定了解,自己说起来也不那么顺口,可以稍作改变,避开该词或对该词汇进行进一步解释尽量用自己熟悉的简短句型和词汇。口语考试的测量不同于写作,只要能达到交流的目的,表达中的暂时停顿、重复甚至句子的不连贯都是可以接受的。因而不必担心句子长度或可以用复

杂的句型或生僻的词汇。形式是为内容服务的,简单的东西当然要用简单的词汇和句型。而在第二部分的发言和讨论部分,由于要表达的内容较为复杂,简单句恐怕会影响你表达的正确和完整性。当然,语速不要过快也是一个要注意的问题,因为语速快并不等于英语好,相反,语速过快必然会导致一些音节被“吃掉”而影响表达的完整性。

2.加强语音的训练。由于众所周知的原因,我国学生的英语语音欠债不少。主要表现在重音位置错误,个别音发不对,语调带有中国腔。讲到最后还以

“Ok.That’sall.Thankyouforyourattention.”结尾。死板:已经问过好,问过姓名了,还要

goodmorning/afternoon,mydearteachers!Nowpleaseallowmetointroducemyself.Mynameis?更有意思的是有个考生在离开考场前竟然扭头说了一句“Thankyou啊!”。加强口语训练的紧迫性可见一斑。

3.加强锻炼。Practicemakesperfect.熟能生巧。有些考生基础不错,发音也可以,但是由于紧张,竟然在考场上大汗淋漓,光张口就是说不出话来。这主要是由于平时缺乏锻炼造成的。而另一些人则很镇定,一问,原来是学生干部,经常上台发言,所以胆量大。面试是学生毕业后找工作必不可少的一环,加强这方面的能力锻炼不仅仅是英语一门课的问题,也是学生综合素质的需要。

语言是交际的工具,听说是交际的主要形式。语音、词汇和语法三个部分是语言的基本组成部分,听说能力的培养需要从基础做起,做到“语音要准,词汇要多,语法要熟”,只有这样才能学好英语,做好自我介绍也就顺理成章了。
